There’s no simple way to describe the Haley Sisters, a female version of the Proclaimers maybe? But they’re not ginger or Scottish, it could be said that they’re a modern day equivalent of the Everly Brothers, with their soaring and swooping harmonies around the accompanying guitars.
The sisters, Becky and Jo-Ann sing and play acoustic and bass guitars respectively; accompanied by Brian on flat picking and slide guitar. Their style is Country, Americana, Blues and Rock & Roll, they are favourites of Radio 2’s Bob Harris and have played with George Hamilton IV, Daniel O’Donnell and Freddy Fender amongst others. Brian and Becky also write and record their material. They have been performing together and winning awards since 1989.
A night out at a Haley Sisters concert is a an unique experience which will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside, the songs swing from heartbreaking country songs about how their man has done them wrong and then they swing into an uplifting melody that has you jigging (and possibly, god-forbid, wanting to join in with the line dancers) There is good humoured joking and teasing amongst the three of them in-between the songs.
Becky has a pure and clear voice, she can also yodel almost as well as her dad, but when Jo-Ann sings a sad song there’s a danger of your bottom lip wobbling – and that’s just the men!
They have the 2012 gig list on their website to which dates are added all the time, you can also purchase a CD there if they’re not playing in your neck of the woods, which would be the best £7.00 you could spend.
