  • Top Five Romantic Comedies

Winter is most definitely here, it seems to be dark all the time and we are stuck at home with a head full of cold, or having been snowed in. With so much time on our hands over the winter period it can be difficult to know what to do with yourself; it’s too dark to go out and it’s too cold to do much. But there are ways to beat the cold and boredom, why not have a duvet day or evening watch movies online, curling up to one of your favourite rom-coms?

The top of these is of course Love Actually, can anyone think of a better way to spend a snowy day than curled up on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate watching what is most possible the best feel good film of all time. If Hugh Grant’s dancing doesn’t cheer anyone up nothing will, and of course its Christmassy theme is enough to melt anyone’s heart.

Another festive favourite is The Holiday, a film of self-discovery set in the very romantic Christmas period and, again, full of very nice looking guys, what’s not to love about this feel good, funny film?

If it’s something light and fun you’re after why not press play on Sex and the City: The Movie where a box of tissues might be needed for those despairing moments – I defy anyone not to shed a tear as Carrie runs through the snow on New Year’s Eve to comfort Miranda!

Of course if you are having a duvet day, it’s hard to forget one of the nation’s favourite rom-coms off all time: Bridget Jones Diary. With every woman’s heart going out to Bridget, as well as drooling over Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, it’s enough to warm you up on those cold days! And it might just inspire you to start a New Year with a new diary all of your own.

Of course, for the ultimate rom-com, you just can’t beat Dirty Dancing – a true classic that will have you laughing at Baby’s ‘I carried a watermelon’ moment and crying as Patrick Swayze gets Baby right out of that corner. Perhaps not very festive, but perfect for settling down with a big mug of hot chocolate, and it was voted the best feel-good movie of all time by LOVEFiLM.

With so much great choice, you’ll be spoiled for choice this winter with a great selection of rom-coms!
