  • TOP OF THE POPS - THE 80s -

    VARIOUS ARTISTS
    EMI TV
    3xCD
    Release date: 25.02.08
Top of the Pops was first transmitted live from a converted church in Dickinson Road Manchester at 6.35pm on BBC ONE, New Year's Day 1964. It was presented by Jimmy Savile who opened the show with the immortal line: "It's Number One, it's Top of the Pops"... This album is firmly focussed on the ‘80’s & it’s an era defining album in every sense... nothing brings back warm memories of the ’80’s like Top of the Pops. Every Thursday at 7.00pm, a nation’s teenagers and beyond would begin an eternal debate with Mum as Dad as to whether ‘it’s just noise’, ‘why is that bloke wearing make up?’ & ‘what the hell is a hairy cornflake?’

Top of the Pops - The 80’s is a fantastic journey through 3 CD’s & 10 years of massive, classic 80’s anthems. All the very biggest stars of the decade are featured with ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by The Human League, leading the way & an amazing line-up including Michael Jackson (The Way You Make Me Feel), Adam & The Ants (Stand And Deliver), Frankie Goes To Hollywood (Two Tribes), A-Ha (The Sun Always Shines On T.V.) & Wham! with ‘Freedom’. There are many 80’s albums but this collection really is a cut above - there’s pure pop from the likes of Mel & Kim (Respectable), Bananarama (Venus), Jason Donovan (Too Many Broken Hearts), Kylie Minogue (I Should Be So Lucky) & Bros (When Will I Be Famous?).

There’s inspired soul-power-pop (it’s a new catagory i’ve just invented) from Chaka Khan ‘I Feel For You’, Odyssey ‘Use It Up And Wear It Out’, The Pointer Sisters ‘I’m So Excited’, New Edition ‘Candy Girl’, Billy Ocean ‘When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going’ & Diana Ross ‘Chain Reaction’... Add the likes of Culture Club, David Bowie, Daryl Hall & John Oates Madness Blondie Roxy Music Yazoo Starship, Bangles, Rick Astley, Belinda Carlisle, Kajagoogoo, Nik Kershaw, Simple Minds & Duran Duran & it’s apparent that this is no normal 80’s collection - this is THE 80’s collection!
