  • Patients opt for less invasive cosmetic procedures

Patients are opting for less radical cosmetic treatments in order to reduce the time taken off work to recover due to fear of losing their jobs, according to the Medical Director of a leading cosmetic treatment clinic.

Dr Ravi Jain, Medical Director at Bedfordshire's Riverbanks Clinic, claims that in current economic climate, people are concerned that taking extended time off work to recover from cosmetic surgery may affect their chances of keeping their job through a round of redundancies and are resorting to less invasive treatments which have a shorter recovery time.

“The average breast enhancement or facelift can see a person off work for a week or more, yet there are a host of other treatments available which can provide similar results with radically shorter recovery times. For example, Macrolane is an injectable breast implant which can boost a woman’s bust in just under an hour and she can return to work the next day. Accent RF can give instant lifts with absolutely no downtime and Dermal Fillers can be done in less than an hour and can take years off a patients face. Even liposuction for small pockets of fat can be achieved with Smartlipo, enabling patients to return to work in just two days”, explains Jain.

Dr Jain claims that the rise in ‘Lunchtime’ treatments (procedures that can be completed in less than a hour) is a direct result of employees wanting to keep up with their beauty treatments without having to take extra time off work.

Riverbanks Clinic has experienced a surge in demand for ‘quick’ Botox and Dermal Filler treatments in recent months with bookings up by 54% compared to 2007. Dr Jain reveals that over a third of the bookings at Riverbanks are now for Botox treatments, which start at just £200 and can be completed in as little as thirty minutes. In addition to Botox, Riverbanks, which has been shortlisted for ‘Best New Clinic’ and ‘Best Business Development’ at the forthcoming Aesthetic Medicine Awards, has experienced a steady rise across a range of treatments including Dermal Fillers, Smartlipo, Accent RF and SmartXide Dot (for fine lines and wrinkles).

“Patients are increasingly realising that there are alternative treatments out there which mean they don’t have to take extended time off work and jeopardize their job security in order to maintain their beauty regime, most of which cost considerably less than traditional cosmetic surgery too”, says Dr Jain.
