  • Madonna to return to US claims brother on Five

Madonna to return to US claims brother on Five.

Christopher Ciccone, the 48 year-old brother of Madonna, has given his first television interview about his sister’s impending divorce, exclusively to Five, it was announced today (TUES).

In the interview, to be shown on Wednesday, 12th November at 10pm on Five in Madonna & Guy: Where Did It All Go Wrong?, Christopher Ciccone claims that his famous sister will be returning to her New York roots and is set to launch a directing career to rival Guy Ritchie.

Christopher says: “I envisage her going back to New York because she’s a New Yorker, that’s where she began and that’s where she’ll stay. In the end she’s a New Yorker and London is not New York, the English countryside is beautiful but there’s not enough going on for her.”

Christopher also shares his thoughts on Madonna’s marriage and soon-to-be ex.: “Frankly I thought it wouldn’t last. I thought it was an English thing she was going through.

“(Guy) was generally a miserable guy and he got worse. He became less and less happy as a person. I think because his career isn’t where he wants to be. I imagine he blames her on some level.

“I think it had to do with him, her career continues up and it’s not going down where as his career had dropped off and he has made a series of not very good movies.”

Ciccone also compares his sister’s marriage to Guy with that of her high-profile former husband, Sean Penn: “As a husband type he (Guy) was very much like Sean Penn, they both pretended that they grew up in the street. Guy’s thing was the Eastender, Sean liked to act that he grew up in a poor family and had a rough life which was all bullshit, he came from a very wealthy family so there were lots of similarities.”

Referring to his sister’s extravagant nuptials, Ciccone claims: “The wedding, the tone of the whole thing gives you a good idea of where the marriage was going, it was very scripted and very unpleasant and very big and I don’t think it was a good beginning.”

Ciccone comments on his estranged sister’s parenting skills: “I think one of the smartest things she did was to take her children out of Hollywood.”

Her future projects will see her competing with Guy, he says: “Apparently she wants to be directing and that’s what she’ll be doing. Two directors in the family is never going to work.”

On their ill-fated film collaboration he says: “I couldn’t believe she made a movie with him, it was a really dumb - it’s down there in my list of movies not to see.”

Madonna and Guy: Where Did It All Go Wrong? follows Russell and Ross: What the F*** Was That All About? as part of a series of fast turnaround, topical documentaries between now and the end of the year.

Madonna and Guy: Where Did It All Go Wrong? is a Zig Zag production for Five. It was commissioned by Five’s Head of Factual Entertainment, Steve Gowans. The Executive Producer is Brent Baker.
